Girl Scout Programs

The Science Museum of Long Island is a great place to bring your scout troop to earn a badge.

Fee: $175 - 1½ hour program for 15 scouts ($11 for each additional scout with a maximum of 25)

Earn the Birdbath Award through live animal encounters with our amphibians, reptiles and mammals. Learn where the animals live, what they eat and how to care for them.

Explore our beach to learn about the animals that make Manhasset Bay their home. Take an incredible journey through the water cycle.

Experiment with science using household materials. Create a blob of goo, dive into density, mix up a foaming eruption and much more.

Get ready to set out on an outdoor adventure. Prepare a snack to take with you as you explore your way through our 36 acre preserve.

Junior

Get up close to our live animals and learn what each animal needs to survive. Investigate how the animals react to food, being touched and to being grooming.

Learn the difference between insects and spiders as you get up close to our live hissing cockroaches and tarantula. Go on a bug hunt and set up a terrarium to keep a specimen you find.

Decipher a secret message, learn how to lift fingerprints and collect evidence while helping to solve a mystery.

Cadette

Camping requires skills and knowledge to stay safe. Learn how to build a campfire, cook outdoors and practice your compass skills.

 

               

Night Owl Visit STARLAB, our portable planetarium, to learn about stars, planets and constellations. Meet one of the Museum’s nocturnal animals before taking a 5 senses walk in the dark. Sleepovers (All Levels)

Make earning your badge at the Science Museum of Long Island a night to remember. Your troop is welcome to have a scout sleepover on the first floor of the Museum.

Fee: $390 for 15 scouts ($26 each additional scout with a maximum group size of 25) There is no fee for adults, but please limit the number you bring.

Sleepover Itinerary

Friday night                                                                     Saturday morning

5:30-6:00 pm- Troop arrives, settles in, and has dinner    7:00-8:00 am- Breakfast and pack up belongings

6:00-7:30 pm- Badge Program                                           8:00-9:00 am- Beach Walk

8:00-9:30 pm- Campfire and night hike                             9:00am- Troop departs

Indoor activity options will be available in case of inclement weather. Troops are responsible for bringing dinner, breakfast, s’more ingredients, sleeping bags, blankets, videos, DVDs and games.
