Animal Adaptations

Explore the amazing world of animals by getting up close to some of our live animals. Discover what adaptations they need to survive. LE, uE

Endangered Species

Learn the differences among the terms endangered, threatened and extinct. Look at the causes of extinction by examining the products of wildlife trade and the effects of habitat destruction. Discover ways humans can help save endangered species. uE

Insects and Spiders

See what distinguishes insects from spiders while observing live species and preserved specimens. See a live tarantula and touch a hissing cockroach while learning about their habitats and adaptations. LE

Little Green Thumbs

Have you ever eaten a root? Find out if you have while exploring the different parts of a plant and how they help a plant survive. See how a seed becomes a plant as students get to take home a plant of their own. LE

Microscope Study

The microscope is a powerful tool. Learn the basic features of a compound light microscopes. Observe slides of microscopic organisms and learn to make a wet-mount slide. uE

Plant Biology and Physiology

Introduce students to the classification, anatomy, and physiology of various members of the plant and fungi kingdoms. Mushrooms, mosses, ferns, and seed plants will be discussed. In conclusion, a complete flower is dissected. uE

Sugar Science

How much sugar do you eat in a day? Come find out and discover this deliciously sweet substance and evaluate the sugar content of products you consume every day. LE, uE

Tropical Rain Forest

The tropical rainforest is one of the most biodiverse in the world. Learn about its main characteristics and how animals survive there.   See how indigenous people utilize its resources and meet some live animals as well. LE, uE

Butterflies                $200

Discover the life cycle and anatomy of butterflies and learn how they use their unusual senses to find food. Take home your very own caterpillar and watch it change into a beautiful adult. Available April through June. LE, uE

Frog dissection       $225

Get up close to a preserved frog. See how its anatomy compares to that of a human being and learn dissecting techniques that preserve the external and internal parts. uE,


Grasshopper Dissection

Learn about the wonderful world of arthropods as we discover one of its most famous members: the grasshopper. This class will completely examine the internal and external anatomy of the grasshopper. LE, uE

Mammal Mania

Come get a closer look at the exiting world of mammals. Meet live representatives of this diverse group and discover how they have adapted to life on land, in the air, and at sea. See actual whale bones. uE

Owl Pellet dissection        $225

Examine the unusual eating habits of the owl. Pellet dissection, anatomical construction, and pellet cycle will be examined. See how owls eat their food whole and later regurgitate it. Students will work in pairs. uE

Reptiles and Amphibians

Study the field of herpetology and learn the differences between reptiles and amphibians. Discover the unique adaptations of turtles, snakes, lizards, frogs, and toads while meeting some of the cold-blooded creatures that live at the museum. uE

Squid Dissection

Discover the unique internal anatomy of this common but mysterious sea creature. Examine the structure and use of its beak, pen, and ink. Students will work in pairs. LE, uE
