Endangered Species 

(Grades 3 - 6)

Learn the differences among the terms endangered, threatened and extinct. Look at the causes of extinction by examining the products of wildlife trade and the effects of habitat destruction. 

Butterflies*

Discover the life cycle and anatomy of butterflies and learn how they use their unusual senses to find food. Take home your very own caterpillar and watch it change into a beautiful butterfly!

Little Green Thumbs

(Grades Pre-K - 2nd)

Have you ever eaten a root? Find out if you have while exploring the different parts of a plant and how they help a plant survive. See how a seed becomes a plant as students get to take home a plant of their own.

Insects and Spiders

(Grades Pre-k - 2)

See what distinguishes insects from spiders while observing live species and preserved specimens. See a live tarantula and touch a hissing cockroach while learning about their habitats and adaptations.

Tropical Rain Forest 

(Grades 2 - 4​)

The tropical rainforest is one of the most biodiverse in the world. Learn about its main characteristics and how animals survive there.   See how indigenous people utilize its resources and meet some live animals as well.

Mammal Mania

(Grades K - 6)

Come get a closer look at the exiting world of mammals. Meet live representatives of this diverse group and discover how they have adapted to life on land, in the air, and at sea.

Reptiles and Amphibians 

(Grades K - 6)

Study the field of herpetology and learn the differences between reptiles and amphibians. Discover the unique adaptations of turtles, snakes, lizards, frogs, and toads while meeting some of the cold-blooded creatures that live at the museum.

Microscope Study - Jr

(Grades 2 - 3)

Learn the ins-and-outs of microscopy in this fun introductory class. After understanding the parts of a microscope and how slides are made, observe and draw specimens from our vast selection of organisms from all walks of life. Not available for outreach

Microscope Study - Sr

(Grades 4 & up)

Take your knowledge and skills to the next level! Learn the history of microscopy and how the field has evolved to be an essential part of scientific understanding. Observe and sketch an assortment of more challenging slides before making one from your own cheek cells!Not available for outreach

DISSECTION PROGRAMS

Owl Pellet Dissection*

(Grades 2 - 5) - $240*

Examine the unusual eating habits of the owl. Pellet dissection, anatomical construction, and pellet cycle will be examined. See how owls eat their food whole and later regurgitate it. Students will work in pairs.

Grasshopper Dissection*

(Grades 1 - 6) - $215*

Learn about the wonderful world of arthropods as we discover one of its most famous members: the grasshopper. This class will completely examine the internal and external anatomy of the grasshopper.

Squid Dissection*

(Grades 2 - 6) - $215*

Discover the unique internal anatomy of this common but mysterious sea creature. Examine the structure and use of its beak, pen, and ink. Students will work in pairs.

Frog dissection* 

(Grades 3-12) - $250*

Get up close to a preserved frog. See how its anatomy compares to that of a human being and learn dissecting techniques that preserve the external and internal parts.
