Senior Scientists

4th - 7th grade

Campers are organized into groups based on registration levels and grade the camper has completed by June 2019

Some grade levels may have children from 2 different grade levels combined"  example:  Kindergarten and 1st

Note:  Children in the nursery level must be at least 4 years of age and toilet trained

            Copy of birth certificate required for children in the nursery program

Session 1: July 1st – 5th (no camp on July 4)

Chemical Conundrums

Kick off the summer right with a week of amazing chemistry experiments! Explore the effects of mixing chemicals to make different types of slime, rocket fuel, and much more.  Witness our amazing liquid nitrogen presentation as objects freeze and smash to pieces, then taste some of the frozen results!    

Session 2: July 8th – 12th

Invention Convention

Unleash your inner inventor during this week that will have you building a variety of gadgets and gizmos.  See how creative you are as you design vehicles and devices that hurl objects through the air.  Put your skills to the test by building your very own marshmallow shooter and compete in our famous marshmallow war!  

Session 3: July 15th -19th

Fear Factor

Challenge your mental and physical prowess in a week that is unlike any other! Do you have what it takes to hold a tarantula?  How about eating a cricket?  And what does baby food really taste like?  Feel the rush of adrenaline and thrill of accomplishment in a week that will put your skills and comfort level to the test.

Session 4: July 22nd – 26th

Seas the Day

Journey down to Manhasset Bay and explore everything the shore has to offer. Meet the local marine life firsthand and learn how they adapt to a challenging ecosystem, then, with some knowledge under your belt, dissect a real shark! 

Session 5: July 29th – August 2nd

Tech Mania 

Spend a week exploring the ever-changing world of technology.  Learn how to program robots and compete with fellow campers in engineering challenges throughout this tech-packed week! 

Session 6: August 5th – 9th

Campers Vs. Wild 

A journey into nature is waiting for you in this week dedicated to wilderness survival.  Build your own shelters and campfires, discover edible plants, and learn about the most important tools for outdoor survival.  Come ready for an outdoor adventure and join us for our annual overnight campout at the Science Museum.      

Session 7: August 12th – 16th

The Great SMLI Caper

The SMLI Bureau of Investigation and is looking for our best and brightest campers to join their ranks.  Spend your week in the role of an investigator by examining a crime scene and collecting evidence.  Conduct interviews with potential suspects and meet some interesting characters along the way.  Get ready for a truly immersive experience that you will never forget.

Session 8: August 19th – 23rd

Space Oddity

Discover the far reaches of space in a week dedicated to astronomy and flight.  Learn about the mysteries of the solar system and discover the physics of flight as we build rockets, gliders, and other things that travel through the air.  Create your own solar system with our Universe Sandbox program and investigate the wonders of the universe in our StarLab planetarium.
