Campers are organized into groups based on registration levels and grade the camper has completed by June 2020

Some grade levels may have children from 2 different grade levels combined.  Example:  Kindergarten and 1st. 

 

While the weekly theme for pre-k- 1st grade children may be the same, each grade the daily topics taught will be unique for each grade.

Note:  Children in the nursery level must be at least 4 years of age and toilet trained

Session 1: June 29th –  July 2nd (no camp on July 3rd)

Dinosaur Dilemma

What happened when ancient creatures were buried and left alone for millions of years? Come dig up real fossils in our paleo lab and make your own. Exciting things are hiding under your feet and the only way to see what’s there is to get your hands dirty!
 

Session 2: July 6th – 10th

Space Invaders

Aliens, comets, spaceships, oh my! This week promises to be a blast as we visit our StarLab to learn about stars, planets, and constellations. Make your own constellation and the story behind it, and even launch a rocket! 

Session 3: July 13th -17th

Junior Einsteins

Can a piece of paper be a strong bridge? Can we see sound? Science isn’t just working in a lab, and in this week full of exciting experiments we’ll discover the science found all around us. Leave feeling like you came up with E=mc2!

Session 4: July 20th – 24th

Something’s Fishy


Life’s a beach and this week campers will find out why. Get wet in Manhasset Bay as you learn about the intertidal zone: a fascinating ecosystem with many creatures. Catch some critters and learn all about the challenges they face to survive a day at the beach.

Session 5: July 27th – July 31st

Can We Build it?

Yes, we can! Construct structures that will be put to the test in this creative construction week. Build houses, cars and more; work together to build a whole playground!

Session 6: August 3rd – 7th

Into the Wild

Let’s see if we can survive in the wilderness! Come explore our 36-acre preserve as we find out which plants are edible and enjoy s’mores by the campfire. Discover how to make soap, candles, and butter right at home.

Session 7: August 10th – 14th

Creatures and Critters


Meet the many animals we have here at the museum! Learn about the adaptations of mammals, reptiles, and insects, and even venture into the woods to find the local animals right here at Leeds Pond Preserve.
 

Session 8: August 17th – 21st

Magic and Mystery

Discover the secrets of science to become a real magician! Watch ingredients from your kitchen change colors, turn liquid into slime, and experiment with magnets and other natural forces.
