About

Add a splash of color to your life with this workshop on natural dyes! Explore how we are able to perceive color and how we can extract these colors from nature. Get into some groovy family fun as we teach you different patterns before creating your very own tie-dyed shirt to take home! We’ll explore:

  • Light: Learn how light travels, about the visible spectrum, and how all this helps us perceive all the colors of the rainbow.
  • Paper chromatography: Separate colors through capillary action to see what pigments go into creating different colors.
  • Chemistry: Explore the difference between natural dyes and chemical dyes. See what chemical compounds help create natural dyes and what to add to make them last longer.
  • Dyeing Methodology: How to create different patterns, prepare dyes, and how to preserve the color afterwards. Leave a tie-dye pro!

**SMLI T-Shirts included! Please note your shirt size when registering, or bring your own materials to tie-dye!** (Sorry, no size Adult L or XL available)
